Our management team brings with it several decades of experience in the life sciences domain. Having worked across diverse cultures and industries we collaborate to evolve technological and business strategies to take us forward.

Kalpana Krishnaswami is CEO at Metaome. She has over two decades of experience in US and India. During her career she has led efforts to develop, manage and bring new products to the market. Her technical background is in computational chemistry and software development.

Kalpana has extensive start up experience. She co-founded Jigyasa, an NSF funded eLearning venture in the US. She was also the founding member of Instantiations Inc. (now acquired by Google), Oregon, where she was responsible for their Smalltalk products.

Prior to founding Metaome, Kalpana worked for CambridgeSoft as Director Major Accounts and anchored their sales and business development activities in India. Earlier, Kalpana managed the chemoinformatics product portfolio at Jubilant Biosys and led the molecular modeling efforts in the polymer group at GE (JFWTC, India). Kalpana was at UNC-Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Supercomputing Center. She has conducted several National Level workshops in chemoinformatics for Tripos.

Kalpana has an integrated MS from IIT, Delhi and a second MS in computational chemistry from Wright State University, US.

Ramkumar Nandakumar is the CTO at Metaome. He has over a decade’s experience in Europe and India. Ram brings rich and diverse experience with biological databases and expertise in managing commercial bioinformatics products. His background is in the area of bioinformatics, data mining and knowledge management.

Prior to founding Metaome, Ram worked at Jubilant Biosys where he was responsible for the end-to-end management of one of their major bioinformatics products. Ram started his career at Monsanto where he was instrumental in launching one of the first biological knowledge management projects in India. After this Ram spent several years in Europe where he worked with genome annotation and database management for genomics data at the Max Planck Institute, Germany and University of Cambridge, UK.

Ram has an MS and a specialization in bioinformatics from Madurai Kamaraj University.

Christopher de Souza is the CBO at Metaome. He has nearly two decades of experience in the industry. Christopher started his career in research and in recent years has been focused on business development and strategy.

Most recently Christopher was Vice President of Business Development for SkyePharma, where he was responsible for global business development activities related to the out-licensing of their clinical assets and drug delivery technologies. Prior to this Christopher worked at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research on strategy, collaborations and in-licensing. Earlier, Christopher was a member of the research team at Novartis between 1995 and 2000, where he was responsible for in vivo activities related to the discovery and development of compounds for treatment of diabetes and related metabolic disorders and participated in the development and approval of two drugs to market.

Christopher has an MBA from Rutgers University and a PhD in physiology from Louisiana State University along with post-doctoral training at “The Upjohn Company” and the Joslin Diabetes Center/Harvard Medical School. Christopher also serves on the advisory boards of several biotech and pharmaceutical companies.

Suryanarayanan A. is a strategic investor in Metaome and serves on the board of directors. He has spent a major part of his career as a serial entrepreneur in the life sciences.

Surya’s entrepreneurial journey began with a start up pharmaceutical company called Recon, where he helped the company grow aggressively, taking them to the top 100. He then founded and implemented an IT-enabled health services company called Medybiz, with venture funds in 2000. While managing Medybiz, Surya saw an upcoming opportunity and founded Medi Assist, a Third Party Administrator. Both companies were eventually sold to Reliance. Surya also founded a modern chain of pharmacies branded LifeKen in Bangalore in 2005 which soon grew to 40 stores in the first 15 months of operations. He then successfully engineered a takeover of another pharma retail company called Pill and Powder. The business expanded to a 90 store operation in four states. This chain was later acquired by Religare in 2008.

Surya has a Masters of Management from McGill University and an International Masters in Practicing Management, I.N.S.E.A.D., France. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Licentiate from the Insurance Institute of India.
